Happy Adoption Day (Yesterday)

May 22 - Happy Adoption Day

Yesterday we finalized our adoption of Squirms.
I added our statement to the court below, but feel free to just scroll to the photos of her Adoption Day party.

With our Judge
Our adoption journey began with a desire we shared to have a child and news of infertility. Over the past year we have experienced want of a child, paperwork, interviews, nervous waiting, and asked ourselves questions that challenged our faith. Neither one of us understood what our desire of having a child would really teach us, how it would really change us.
We fell in love with Squirmy the moment we saw her in the hospital. Dark hair, chubby cheeks, tiny feet. We quickly learned that actually having a child and being parents is about exhaustion, laundry, and self-sacrifice. It becomes easy to prioritize what is important at three am. And while the extra caffeine and dishwasher loads full of bottles has been a drastic change in our lifestyle, every task seems incomparable to one of her toothless smiles.
This journey has taught us more about God’s love for us in one year than our previous twenty-eight combined. We feel happy and content with the honor of raising Squirmy into a young woman - and that our want to be parents has really led us to want to be better people, to provide morals, nourishment, and fun for her. We started this because we wanted a child. But we come today to finish this because we want to provide what Squirmy needs, a family.

And we were able to celebrate with some friends, and a Cinderella cake.  We are so grateful to have so many wonderful friends who are just as excited about Squirms as we are.
