Bird Watching

The Blue Heron Inn
We may have a new hobby. Not a full time hobby mind you, but just something to help exercise curiosity and make me feel like I'm paying attention to the world around me. R and I embarked on the loveliest of wonderful weekends this past, well, weekend. I'm sure I'm a selfish person because when he asked, months ago, what I wanted for my birthday this year, my immediate answer was a weekend away, with you, no child, away. R planned, and executed said weekend and my generous in-laws traveled down to central Florida to hang out with the Squirms.

I might have teared up a bit when it actually came time for us to leave, and drive away without the Squirms. But, overall we both did really well being adults together. We ate gourmet breakfasts on china and drank coffee from tiny china cups. Bed and Breakfasts are the best. We went kayaking, walking in the rain, book shopping, and found the best local pizza place. I also took at least one, if not more, long hot baths each day. Bed and Breakfasts are the best.

While kayaking a river through what I'm going to classify as marshland we noticed a lot of birds. So we thought, how pretty, what is that one's name? that duck has been under the water for a long time. oh, what kind of bird is that. is that bird circling us? And we decided to buy a book, about birds. When you go on a walk, or car ride, with my grandparents, they can name most trees, flowers, and birds. I would like to be able to tell the Squirms the names of birds. And trees and flowers. But, we're starting with birds.

So we bought a field guide and a child's bird storybook. And then we sat in a coffee shop and figured out what bird (Great Egret) had showcased it's hunting abilities next to the porch at our bed and breakfast the day before. I can hear AnniePants laughing.

1. The Blue Heron Inn was lovely. And the hosts were even lovelier.
2. Kayaking with R is fun.
3. Our house was cleaner when we returned; my in-laws deep cleaned!
4. Squirms also now has a mini treehouse with a periscope. And several more outfits.
5. We are hoping for our homestudy update visit to occur this week. Our scheduled meeting for yesterday had to be canceled; but we should have another appointment soon.
6. I've been working on our adoption profile book!

  1. Hey Guys! Glad to see you are well and happy. The last time Raquel and I went kayaking was with you two and Chuckles. Good times. I'm jealous that you are going to learn the names of all those majestic egrets and herons and etc. I agree that that's definitely a worthwhile hobby. I somehow feel inadequate as a human being when I can't name a plant or animal species. (In a very small way). Anyway, love and miss you. Take care.
