Today

What do you do when your three year old climbs onto your back, places her tiny hands around your neck, and says "I'm not going to choke you."?
Be very still and wait. Will it be a trachea hold? Will it be a hug?

It was a kiss.

Isn't is exciting being the parent of a three year old?

Today we have talked about thunder, lightning, rainbows, what happens to our skin after playing in the sun, drawing circles, Grandpa, fireworks, and volcanoes. What is a volcano? Knowledge I haven't considered, nor used, since the third grade is difficult to remember. Sure, I know what a volcano is....the definition of a volcano....where is R's book about how the Earth works? My story about almost being wonderfully stranded in Ireland after a nearby volcano erupted and the ash cloud grounding all the planes didn't really explain what a volcano is.

I tried to put a load of towels in the washing machine.

You may not be able to tell from the picture but the wash load the children had planned included six balls, three trains, two tea cups, one pirate bridge, and other assorted stuffed toys.

It's also been a nice day to be the parent of a 21 month old. Yes, he's getting very, very close to two. Today when he was forcefully roused from his nap by Squirms shouting from his doorway for him to Wake Up, he brought his two stuffed animal blankets with him to my arms, and let me hug and rock him before he ran to play.
And right now he is pulling his sister's hair.
I'm going to take all the cuddles and hugs he will give.

We've read books, eaten lots of blueberries, only had one busted lip, and rode around on Thomas the Train today. A pretty good day.
